Coping & Comfort Boxes

At The Lonon Foundation, we believe meaningful support goes beyond a single moment—it meets families where they are, with care that is both practical and deeply personal. Our Coping and Comfort Boxes are thoughtfully designed to provide children, teens, and caregivers with tools, guidance, and tangible reminders that they are not alone.

Coping Boxes

Each box is intentionally curated based on:

  • A child or teen’s developmental age and stage
  • Personal interests and preferences
  • The specific context of a parent’s, or caregiver’s, diagnosis

Coping Boxes may include therapeutic activities, age-appropriate resources, and coping items that help children process emotions, build resilience, and feel supported in the midst of uncertainty. By tailoring every box, we ensure that each child and teen receives resources that truly resonate with them.

Comfort Boxes

We also offer specialized Comfort Boxes to support families transitioning to hospice care, or in the time after a passing, offering comfort, guidance, and care throughout the journey.

Each Comfort Box includes:

  • 1–2 carefully selected books chosen based on the child’s or teen’s age and coping needs
  • Comfort items to provide a sense of security and care
  • A guided honoring activity sheet to help families remember and celebrate their loved one
  • Individualized coping tools tailored to the child’s or teen’s emotional needs
  • A connection with a Certified Child Life Specialist, who provides personalized guidance to caregivers on developmentally appropriate grief responses and ways to support their child

Families also receive a simple guide explaining each resource and how to use it, empowering caregivers to feel confident in supporting their children.

Comfort Boxes are provided with caregiver consent and are reserved for families experiencing end-of-life or bereavement, ensuring support is both appropriate and respectful.

Why It Matters

These boxes are more than materials—they are a bridge to connection, understanding, and healing. By combining tangible resources with individualized support, we equip families with tools they can return to again and again.

Through our Coping and Comfort Boxes, we are able to extend care beyond conversations—placing hope, guidance, and compassion directly into the hands of the families we serve.
